News and Events  NewsWaukegan Public School District 60 uses Sunesys to connect 25 buildings 2/7/2008 Client: The Waukegan School District is located approximately 35 miles north of Chicago, IL, on Lake Michigan. The district has fifteen elementary schools, five middle schools, and a high school program divided between three buildings. It also operates preschool programs at five partnership sites. Enrollment as of 2007 is more than17,000 students. Background: By its own admission, Waukegan's network capabilities were "woefully under-provisioned" for meeting the needs of today's students. The district was unable to deliver basic enrichment services and other curriculum activities to its students and needed a drastic overhaul of its network. Solution: The district engaged Sunesys to install a secure, full-gigabit fiber optic network to connect a total of 25 buildings. The Ethernet Wide Area Network will connect with 2 strands of optical fiber in a point-to-point configuration managed by Sunesys. The district and its students can now take advantage of the latest Web 2.0, VOIP, videoconferencing technology, high-speed wireless access and streaming video capabilities. "We are thrilled that we'll no longer have to worry about our network or our bandwidth. We can stop asking 'can we do that?' ,and instead, focus on providing new learning opportunities for our students, parents and staff, thanks to our new Sunesys fiber optic network."
